No Priests, No Eucharist: The centrality of the Eucharist and Priesthood

Chaplain (Lt.) William D. Devine offers a prayer as he celebrates Mass in northern Iraq for Marines of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24th MEU) during Operation Provide Comfort.

We all know that without a priest we cannot receive the Eucharist, but how does the Eucharist tie into the promoting of vocations in your local Catholic life? Well, the late Pope John Paul II spoke of the exclusive interrelationship of the two that is critical in the mission of the Church.

“If the Eucharist is the center and summit of the Church’s life, it is likewise the center and summit of priestly ministry… the centrality of the Eucharist in the life and ministry of priests is the basis of its centrality in the pastoral promotion of priestly vocations. It is in the Eucharist that prayer for vocations is most closely united to the prayer of Christ the Eternal High Priest.” — Ecclesia de Eucharistia

If you want to promote the priesthood, join us in praying for priests. Click here to go to ForYourVocation.org to find a chapel of adoration in your local area.

During this Year for Priests, thank you for praying for vocations to the priesthood and for spending time with our Eucharistic Lord!
